What Is Torn Earlobe Repair?
Torn earlobe repair, also called earlobe repair or split earlobe repair, is a minor surgical procedure that closes a partially or completely torn earlobe or an elongated earring hole. It can also repair earlobes stretched by gauges and, when needed, reduce earlobes that have become long or thin with age.
During the repair, the thin, healed skin lining the tear is removed so that fresh tissue edges can heal together. The surgeon then closes these edges in careful layers with fine sutures, often in a pattern that helps prevent a notch at the bottom of the lobe. Once healed, many patients can have the earlobe re-pierced in a slightly different spot, or keep their earring hole with Dr. Pazmiño’s hole-preserving technique.
Dr. Pazmiño repairs partial and complete tears, stretched or gauged earlobes, and performs earlobe reductions. No two earlobes are identical, so he often uses a different technique on each side.
When possible, he uses a technique that shrinks the earring hole while keeping it open, so you don’t need to have your ear re-pierced. He also uses stepwise and Z-plasty closures to prevent a notch at the bottom of the earlobe, and he frequently repairs earlobes that a previous facelift pulled out of shape.
