Breast Lift

Time takes its toll on our bodies in various ways. For women, one area of your body that we may see undergo a number of different changes is our breasts. From a period of rapid growth during puberty to swelling and deflating with pregnancy and childbirth, nursing or even just fluctuations in our weight, it is not abnormal for our breasts to change size multiple times during our lifetime. However, these normal changes combined with the natural aging process can, over time, cause our breasts to lose some of their natural elasticity.

Once the skin is stretched beyond its usual capacity, it is almost impossible for it to return back to how it once was. When this happens to the skin on our breasts, they can quickly sag and droop, no longer sitting as high on the chest as before. Dropping breasts can lack volume and make us look much older than we really are. We can also lose confidence in our appearance, and our self-esteem can nose-dive.

Whilst some sagging of the breasts is completely normal, you don’t have to choose to accept the process. Breast lift surgery is a commonly sought-after cosmetic surgery procedure that is designed to reposition the breasts so that they sit higher on the chest, causing them to appear fuller and giving you the appearance of someone younger.

We are delighted to be able to offer patients the benefit of exceptional quality breast lift surgery, performed by our knowledgeable and experienced board-certified cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Pazmiño, here at our clinic in Miami, FL.

What Happens During A Breast Lift?

A breast lift procedure is a reasonably straightforward process that will be carried out using a general anesthetic. This puts you into a state of unconsciousness during your procedure and will ensure that you aren’t in any pain. There are actually several different techniques that can be used to perform a breast lift. Which technique Dr. Pazmiño will use will depend on your individual requirements and will be discussed with you during your consultation appointment. However, the three types of lift are as follows:

The ‘Donut’ Lift. The Donut lift is used to correct fairly mild sagging, and this type of breast lift is often carried out in addition to breast augmentation surgery (where implants or fat are used to increase the size and volume of the breasts). In a donut lift, only a donut-shaped incision is needed, which takes place around the areola part of the breast. The scar will then blend in with the edge of the areola to minimize its appearance.

The ‘Lollipop’ Lift. The lollipop lift is recommended for patients with moderately sagging breast tissue. In addition to the incision around the areola, Dr. Pazmiño will make an incision that runs from the areola to the inframammary fold. This enables the breast to be reshaped as well as lifted, ensuring that patients get the best visual outcome from their procedure.

The ‘Anchor’ Lift. This lift is recommended for those patients who have extremely large, pendulous breasts, usually with a nipple and areola that point downwards. The anchor lift requires three incisions – think of those used in the anchor lift, and then add one along the length of the inframammary fold. Since this technique is recommended for serious lifts, extensive reshaping of the breast tissue is also carried out.

Recovering From Breast Lift Surgery

As with any major cosmetic surgery, you should expect a significant recovery period after your breast lift procedure. In addition to coming around fully after the general anesthetic and waiting for it to completely wear off, you can expect your breasts to be heavily bandaged and to feel tight, swollen and painful. You will be given the appropriate pain relief to keep you as comfortable as possible, and your post-surgery care team will show you how to care for your new and improved breasts. It is essential that you follow their instructions precisely if you are to avoid complications and make the best possible recovery from your procedure.

Prepare to be away from your job for at least two weeks – longer if your work involves physical activity – and to wear a surgical bra for up to three months. This will help control your swelling, lower your risk of complications and give you the best outcome from your breast lift procedure.
