Over time, as we grow older and our skin starts to diminish in quality, we seek to find a solution that will restore our skin to its former youthful state. Our face and neck are the most susceptible to the environmental and external factors that cause our skin to deteriorate, as they are the most exposed parts of our body.
Fortunately, there have been advancements in the field of plastic surgery, where there are a number of procedures that can help us regain our youthful and natural skin. One of these is the neck lift, which specifically focuses on the sagging tissues on our neck.
The Neck Lift
A neck lift is a surgery that eliminates drooping skin and fat from under your chin while also tightening loose muscle tissues. These techniques create a more defined and youthful appearance for the neck.
Good Candidates
What makes someone a good candidate for a neck lift? Typically, ideal candidates have the following:
They complain that they have a “turkey neck.” This comes about as a result of drooping neck tissues.
They have an ill-defined jawline.
They have sagging skin under their chin.
They have excess neck fat and drooping muscle tissue.
The Consultation
Before you are able to get a neck lift, you will need to meet with Dr. Pazmiño at our office. He can examine your neck to ensure that the neck lift is the best solution for your aesthetic issues.
He will also discuss your goals and needs with you in order to create a proper surgical plan for the procedure. Make sure to bring your complete medical history to this consultation, including any medications or supplements you are currently taking.
Dr. Pazmiño will let you know that you will need to quit smoking before your procedure and for a time after it since smoking can cause complications in the healing process. Avoiding NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) will also be vital so that there is no excess bleeding.
The Procedure
After anesthesia is administered to ensure that you are comfortable during surgery, incisions are made below the chin or behind the ears. These allow the doctor to have access to the underlying tissues.
Liposuction will be used to remove excess stubborn fat cells from the neck area. The platysma muscles will be tightened and rejoined using internal sutures, eliminating sagging. Excess skin will be trimmed away with a scalpel. The incisions are closed with the help of medical stitches.
Your Results
After your neck lift is complete, you will need to rest and recover for a time. There will be a degree of post-surgical bruising and swelling, so you will need to wait for those to ameliorate before you can show off your final results.
Typically, final neck-lift results appear in the form of a neck that looks contoured, smooth, and much more youthful-looking.
