Arm Contouring for Men

Cosmetic surgery procedures are often thought of as being primarily sought after by women, but the truth is that many men also want to improve aspects of their appearance, and all too often, the areas that we wish to target are those which don’t respond well to diet and exercise. Fortunately, there are some types of cosmetic surgeries that are particularly good at addressing these concerns and helping patients to achieve the body that they have worked towards and deserve. One of these is the male body contouring. This type of cosmetic procedure is becoming increasingly popular, with arm contouring being one of the top three procedures of this type being requested at cosmetic surgery clinics across the United States.

What is Arm Contouring?

Arm contouring is usually sought by people who have lost a considerable amount of weight and this weight loss has left them with sagging skin that hangs down underneath their arms. Not only can this look unsightly and affect your confidence and self-esteem, but it can also even be uncomfortable, rubbing on clothes or preventing them from fitting as well as they should.

Arm contouring aims to remove excess skin and fat and tighten the upper arm area to restore the natural contours and give them a more cosmetically attractive and youthful appearance.

Exactly what will happen in your procedure will depend on the extent of the improvement needed. Men who have mild to moderate sagging and good skin elasticity may be good candidates for arm contouring carried out via liposuction. This is where excess fat from the arms is removed via suction and is a minimally-invasive procedure, performed through a number of very small incisions. You may even be able to have the procedure under a combination of local anesthetic and sedation, rather than a general anesthetic.

However, if you have more significant sagging and your skin does not have good laxity, you may need surgical arm contouring, also known as an arm lift or Brachioplasty, which may be performed under general anesthetic. An incision is made on the inside of your upper arm, running vertically from the elbow joint to the armpit. Excess skin and fat are cut away and the skin pulled tight to the natural contours of the arm to create a new streamlined appearance.

Benefits of Arm Contouring

There are several benefits to choosing arm contouring using liposuction. These include:

  • Arm contouring is a minimally invasive procedure where only local anesthetic and sedation is necessary.

  • The liposuction entry points made are very small and rarely leave a scar.

  • Sutures used to close the entry points are dissolvable.

  • There is minimal risk of complications.

  • Post-surgery discomfort is usually minimal and easily managed.

  • Patients make a quicker recovery and can usually return to work that same week, although physical exercise will need to be abstained from for at least 14 days.

  • You can achieve smoother, tighter, and more toned upper arms.

  • Your clothes will fit better and be more comfortable.

  • You will feel happier with your appearance, meaning you could also enjoy improved confidence and self-esteem.
